What is Angels Camp, California known for?
Angels Camp homes for sale sit in the only incorporated city in Calaveras County, at 1,378 feet — home of the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee made famous by Mark Twain.
In the winter of 1865 an unknown young writer named Samuel Clemens sat down at the Angels Hotel bar and listened to a man named Ben Coon tell a yarn about a man, a frog, and a wager. That November the story ran in a New York paper. Mark Twain was born.
The same hotel bar is still there, on the same block, on the same Main Street. The frog is still mythic. And every May, on the third weekend, the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee — running since 1928 — fills the fairgrounds with hundreds of frogs and the families that hand-raise them.
Angels Camp is also the operating address of Legacy Properties. Sara lives a mile from the fairgrounds. Most of her closings happen within a thirty-minute radius of her front porch.
