What is Jackson, California known for?
Jackson is the county seat of Amador County — the courthouse, the hospital, the county offices and most of the payroll are here. That single fact separates it from every other town on this site.
Murphys is a wine town. Sutter Creek is an antiques town. Plymouth is a vineyard town. Jackson is a working town, and it is the only one in the county where a buyer can reasonably expect to live and earn in the same postcode.
That shows up in the housing. Jackson's stock leans toward ordinary family houses on ordinary streets rather than second homes and cabins, and it turns over for ordinary reasons — a job, a school run, a shorter drive — rather than because someone fell in love with a valley on a Saturday.
